How to Draw Halloween

Step 1

What could be more Halloween than a jack-o-lantern wearing a witch hat? If you replied “nothing,” then you are good!

This is exactly what we will draw for this first step of our guide on how to draw Halloween.

You can begin by drawing a small square shape and then drawing another square about it. This serves as the buckle of the band around the witch hat.

Now we can start drawing more hats and pumpkins for your Halloween drawing. Let’s start with the hat first!

For the strap around the hat, use a few straight lines coming out horizontally from the buckle. Then you can use some wavy curved lines for the top of the hat that folds back on itself.

So we can start with the witch-hat border! You can use some curved lines for the brim of the hat and then bend them inwards for the bottom part of the brim.

The reference image shows you what we mean if it sounds confusing. So once you’ve replicated the lines in our example, you can move on to step 2.

For the strap around the hat, use a few straight lines coming out horizontally from the buckle. Then you can use some wavy curved lines for the top of the hat that folds back on itself.

In this third step of our Halloween drawing guide, we will draw the other side of the pumpkin. This page will be very similar to the one on the left, with just a few differences.

Now it’s time to start playing squash! Start by drawing some meandering lines from the inside of the hat for one of the pumpkin vines.

Next, use a rounded line for the left side of the pumpkin and then add a small leaf at the base.

Step 3

In this third step of our Halloween drawing guide, we will draw the other side of the pumpkin. This page will be very similar to the one on the left, with just a few differences.

It wouldn’t look like a jack-o-lantern without the face so we will add it to this part of the Halloween drawing.

The face consists of eyes, a nose, and a smiling mouth, and as you can see in the reference image, these are all drawn with very angular lines to make them look sculpted.

First, draw another curvy vine going down this side, and you can add a leaf to this vine for one of these differences.

The rest of this site will be the same as the other side, so use a curved line for the right side of the pumpkin and add another leaf at the base.

Step 4

The details we add will be subtle but effective! Add some thin lines on top of the hat to get shading detail, then add more on the bottom.

Then you are ready for the last step! Before doing that, you can also add some details to finish it off.

You can also draw lines in these shapes to make them look like they were carved out of the thick gourd.

Then complete this step by adding some curved lines for the pumpkin carvings. The next step needs to add a few final details, so let’s move on!
